Description |
A Broad Axe head / blade of hand made iron from 1800. It is slightly rusty and chipped, with no handle. Mostly black, with the sharpened edge still holding a silvery sheen. Dimensions: Length of axehead before widening towards blade 10cm, full length 20.3cm, Blade height 27.5cm. |
Provenance |
A broad axe would have been mostly used for squaring and chopping lumber. Though, this axe is of more particular note for being personally crafted by hand, and for its age. Most used by hewers, sawyers, shipwrights and carpenters. Wood, Tools & Skills -Mark Franke |
