Provenance |
The term 'camcorder' is a hybrid of camera/recorder, which combines 'video camera' and 'audio cassette recorder' - this was a technological innovation, since in only a couple decades previous, these would have been two separate devices. Camcorders were geared towards a wider consumer use, and were popular with journalists and amateur filmmakers, and became a staple in the 90s home, as families could easily document significant events. This camcorder had exciting new editing capabilities, including microphone mixing, audio and video dubbing, as well as the ability to add titles and fade-in or out between scenes. All of these added features resulted in quite a hefty piece of equipment, which had to be mounted on the user's shoulder while recording. There is no need to worry about a low battery when on the go - just plug it into the cigarette lighter socket in your car for a charge! |
