Description |
Green, wool, World War I military jacket belonging to donor's husband, a sergeant in the 46th South Saskatchewan Battalion. Jacket has 5 buttons and 4 buttoned pockets with badges on sleeves indicating rank and years of service. Left sleeve has green patch also blue band with a badge of crossed flags. Left sleeve at top of right and left sleeve is badge of red cloth with 46th Canada in green. Two metal hooks for a belt, two smaller buttons on epaulets, collar has a badge reads "South Saskatchewan CLVI Overseas Canada" , tear in left sleeve. |

This jacket was worn by Sgt. William Albert Shepherd of the 46th South Saskatchewan battalion. The blue arm band on the left sleeve indicated that he was a signaler, and the 4 blue chevrons on the bottom right of the jacket indicate 4 years of overseas service. Finally, the three gold chevrons indicate his rank as a non-commissioned office (sergeant). |
